Nicaragua drives into the automobile age

Nicaragua’s economy has grown sharply in recent years, but it is being outstripped by consumption of gasoline and the number of cars on the road.

In part, the phenomenon is due to cheaper gasoline prices as a result of a big fall in world oil markets. The growth in the number of cars is due largely to the available of credit for people who would not usually be able to buy a car.
