Nicaragua earns $1.9 billion amid rapid export growth

Monday, January 3, 2011

Preliminary figures show that Nicaragua's exports in 2010 reached some $1.9 billion, a 31.7 percent increase on 2009.

Growth was largely due to the international market prices of products such as coffee, sugar and gold.

Nicaragua's leading trade partner continues to be the United States, which buys some 28.7 percent of its exports. The second leading purchaser of Nicaraguan exports is now Venezuela.
