Nicaragua fiscal reform passed despite protests

Nicaragua's, in which President Daniel Ortega and his supporters have a majority, approved a fiscal reform to which the business community was firmly opposed.

The aim of the reform is to increase taxes across the board in order to cover the deficit that faces Ortega after months of political and economic crisis.

The vote in Parliament conceded with the launch of peace talks between the government and opposition.
