Tuesday, December 21, 2010

The government of Nicaragua plans to add some 600 megawatts of electricity generating capacity between next year and 2016.

The plans will cost some $2 billion of investment, most of it from the private sector. The new plans will generate hydroelectricity, wind power and geothermal.

Under the new projects, generation of electricity by oil derivatives is expected to drop from 65 percent at present to 8 or 10 percent in 2016.
