Nicaragua reckons crisis has caused losses of $1.18, billion

Tuesday, October 2, 2018

At last, the government of Nicaragua has calculated the losses to the economy that began in April. They count to $1.18 billion, the Finance ministry says.

However, the independent think tank Funides reckons that losses are much greater than that. Funides reckons that 350,000 jobs have been lost in the crisis, for example; the government maintains the correct number is 118,000.

In addition, while the government estimates are based on estimates of losses to the economy, particularly transport and tourism, Funides says that no time frame has been specified.
