Nicaragua remittances surge in first quarter

Friday, May 25, 2012

Remittances to Nicaragua went up from $214 million to $250 million during the first three months of the year, compared to the same period last year.

The numbers show a 16 percent increase, the Central Bank of Nicaragua reported.

Despite the growth, there is no guarantee remittances will continue to grow due to the economic situation in the United States and Europe, suggests economist Ricardo Zambrana.
