Nicaragua reports 19 percent increase in coffee exports from 2009/2010 cycle

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Nicaragua ended its 2009/10 coffee harvest with 1.64 million 60-kg bags of exports, up 19 percent compared to last year's cycle.

In September the country exported 50,860 bags of coffee, a 48 percent drop from the same month in 2009, as global coffee supplies are tight ahead of the new harvest, which begins this month in the region.

Tight supplies of top-quality beans helped push arabica prices to a 13-year high in September.
