Nicaragua rules itself out of the United States Millennium Challenge Fund

Nicaragua has ruled itself out of the US Millennium Challenge Fund, which in recent years made major contributions to rural projects.

The government itself decided not to take part again. Jaime Morales, the vice-president, confirmed that President Daniel Ortega rejected an invitation from Washington.

In 2005, Nicaragua was chosen to be granted $175 million by the fund. the money was used for highways, small business and land entitlements.
