Nicaragua's energy revolution imperiled by low oil prices

With or without aid, Nicaragua hopes to demonstrate to the world how to clean up an energy sector, proposing an energy revolution. Already it derives 15 percent of its power from turbines on the shore of Lake Nicaragua, 16 percent from its largely geothermal resources, 12 percent from hydropower, and 7 percent from biomass.

But now the nation’s energy revolution is imperiled by low oil prices.
