Nicaragua's mining sector among top in region

Nicaragua is one of Central America's most attractive countries to invest in mining, according to a study by European firm Global Business Reports.

The study said Nicaragua is expecting a record 10 million ounces of gold production this year, and is the region's largest gold producer.

Government figures show mining contributes 2.2 percent of the nation's gross domestic product, and accounted for $1.25 billion in income during 2006 and 2012.
