Nicaragua strolls along boulevard of its broken dreams

Tuesday, October 23, 2018

Nicaragua is awash with the broken dreams of small entrepreneurs following the collapse of the nation's economy. Interviewed by the newspaper El Nuevo Diario, one person invested $15,000 in a café that began well but had to close within four months. Another business, in which $80,000 was invested six years ago, is currently on sale.

The hotel and restaurant business sector has suffered a year-on-year decline in earnings, as tourist arrivals shrink to minimal levels.

Meanwhile, the government reported losses of $231 million in tourism from April until now.
