Nicaragua to send 22,000 tons of sugar to Europe

Nicaragua hopes to export some 22,000 tons of sugar to Europe, once the association accord comes into effect.

The sugar industry accounts for 35,000 direct jobs and some 140,000 indirect jobs, and this year hopes to produce a historic amount of 15.3 million quintals.

However, according to official figures, Nicaragua is still behind Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador in sugar production.
