Nicaragua warns Costa Rica over territory

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega announced his intention to appeal to the UN International Court of Justice to return the province of Guanacaste of Costa Rica back to Nicaragua.

Guanacaste became the territory of Costa Rica 200 years ago, and accounts for 20 percent of Costa Rica's territory.

The territory is located approximately 270 kilometers from the capital San José, and is a popular tourist destination in the region.
