Nicaragua wins $1.1 billion finance for hydro project

Nicaragua has secured finance for the Tumarín hydroelectric scheme, one of the largest energy projects in Central America.

The project will cost $1.1 billion, which will be financed by the development banks of Central America and Brazil. The dam will be built by two Brazilian companies, Eletrobras and Queiroz Galvão.

The generating capacity of Tumarín is slated at 253 megawatts.
