Nicaraguan farmers aim to repeal canal law

Although the promise of an Inter-oceanic Canal fades on the horizon as time goes by, Law 840, awarding an all-encompassing concession to Chinese magnate Wang Jing, still represents a threat to the country.

The risk of property expropriation is real, and the challenge is how to repeal a law that leaves Nicaragua “on its knees” concur independent legal experts, organizations from civil society and the rural movement that for four years has been protesting to demand the law’s repeal.
