Nicaraguan meat industry in trouble

Monday, August 8, 2016

Nicaragua exports 35,000 tons of meat to the U.S. and Puerto Rico every year, but that could soon stop if the Central American country fails to comply with accords established by the World Trade Organization and U.S. authorities.

A major challenge for the Nicaraguan meat industry is Brazil’s recent deal with the U.S that will allow the South American giant to export fresh and frozen meat to the U.S. and Puerto Rico free of tariffs.
