Northern Triangle leaders back joint force to fight violence

Wednesday, August 24, 2016

The presidents of Central America’s Northern Triangle -- El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras -- agreed to form a joint force to fight international organized crime and the violent gangs that plague the region.

President Salvador Sánchez Cerén, of El Salvador, said that the force would combine polie and the armed forces from all three countries. Their first job would be to defend national borders against illegal traffic in arms and drugs.
