Only the ghosts remain of Nicaragua's luxury tourism

President Daniel Ortega has denied that international tourists have abandoned Nicaragua after months of protests and violence. But there is evidence to the contrary.

Until April, such jet-set stars as Beyoncé, Scarlett Johansson and Michael Fassbender, visited the exclusive Mukul resort hotel, Nicaragua's most luxurious. Now only the ghosts remain.

Mukul was closed in June, and the handful of staff remain that the company intends to reopen the hotel by the end of the year. Nobody, however, is sure.
