Ottawa urged to speed up Panama trade deal
Tuesday, December 7, 2010
Canadian federal legislators have been urged to quickly pass legislation that cements a free-trade deal with Panama, to give Canada a major advantage in Central America over the United States.
“Rapid adoption of the agreement will send an important political signal that Canada is open for global business,” said a paper issued by Focal, an Ottawa-based institute that studies relations between Canada and the Americas.
Legislation that would implement the Panama trade pact is still at the committee stage in the House of Commons.
