Panama and Costa Rica dominate investment in region

Panama is the leading recipient of foreign direct investment in Central America, with $2.36 billion last year. Costa Rica came second with $1.41 billion, according to the UN Economic Commission for Latin America.

Panama and Costa Rica received 64 percent of the foreign direct investment that the region receives. Honduras received $274 million, Guatemala $105 million, El Salvador $89 million and Nicaragua $74 million.
