Panama and Nicaragua to lead economic growth in Central America

Panama and Nicaragua will lead Central America’s economic growth this year, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, ECLAC.

Panama’s economy will grow 5.9 percent, and Nicaragua will grow 4.5 percent this year, the ECLAC report said.

Central American exports are expected to grow 4.3 percent this year compared with 2015, the Central American Economic Integration Secretary, SIECA, said. Last year, the region’s exports grew 2.7 percent.
