Panama banks HSBC and Banco General are the largest in the region, study shows

Panama's fame as the leading financial center of Central America is reflected in its banks.

Two of its banks, HSBC Panamá and Banco General, are the largest in the region, according to a study published by the magazine América Economía.

Last year, Panama's banks increased their lending by 16 percent and their deposits by 13.3 percent.
