The Panama Canal Authority and the Georgia Ports Authority renewed their eight-year-old agreement to work together for mutual economic benefits as more and more shippers take advantage of all water routes from Asia to the US East Coast.\
\
The memorandum of understanding, first signed in 2003, outlines such areas of cooperation as information sharing, joint marketing efforts, exchange of data, capital improvement plans, training and technology.\
\
According to the canal authority’s market studies, the canal’s new locks are expected to direct three times more ships to the Port of Savannah, the fourth-largest and fastest-growing US port.\
