Panama Canal expansion moves forward

Monday, September 8, 2014

The third shipment of locks for the Panama Canal expansion project have arrived to their destination, amid delays due to a workers' strike earlier this year.

The fourth and last shipment of locks was scheduled to arrive to Panama in November this year, however, due to the strike, they were rescheduled for January or February next year, said Jorge Quijano, the Canal's administrator.

The current shipment means the expansion project is now 79 percent complete.
