Panama Canal faces deadline pressure on works

Jose Quijano, the new administrator of the Panama Canal, is playing down fears that the project to increase the capacity of the canal could be delayed.

The $5.25 billion project includes the construction of three new locks in order to increase the capacity to receive much bigger ships.

The project is due to be completed next year, but it could be delayed because of a dispute over the quality of the cement being used.
