Panama Canal held talks with other contractors

The Panama Canal Authority confirmed that it has held talks with other potential contractors as it prepares for the possible Monday suspension of work on the expansion project.

"We're prepared for that eventuality, but we're still holding out hope that GUPC reconsiders," Canal administrator Jorge Quijano said, referring to the Sacyr-led consortium that was awarded the contract for the locks project in 2009.

Quijano added that GUPC had not yet presented a positive proposal for resolving the conflict.
