Panama Canal sees less ships but more income

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

While less ships than expected are using the Panama Canal, income from its use has beaten forecasts.

The Panama Canal Authority had expected to see $1.52 billion from fees between October 2012 and July 2013, however, the amount reported was $1.53 billion.

But only 11,408 ships used the canal in the period, down from the authority's expectations of more than 12,450.
