Panama Canal yields to pleas on tariff increases

After a barrage of complaints, the Panama Canal Authority decided to postpone its new tariff increase structure to October this year.

The increase in tariffs for using the Canal ranges from 15 percent for larger vessels, to up to 113 percent for smaller ships.

The authority announced it opened a new consultation period of 15 days, during which it will receive information, opinions and suggestions to consider.
