Panama faces electricity crisis

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Panama's electric system is at risk due to dry weather and a halt in production at the PanAm hydroelectric project.

"This leaves us in a tight spot. We don't have an 'energy cushion' to fall back on," said Vicente Prescott, Panama's General Secretariat for Energy.

Panama normally produces 1,600 Megawatts, however, with the drought and the situation in PanAm, the number has dropped to 38.4 Megawatts.
