Panama in the final straight with United States

Panama is all set for the October 1 launch for its free trade accord with the United States, said the trade minister, Ricardo Quijano.

The treaty was ratified by Panamanian legislators at the end of 2007. It took almost four years for the US Congress to ratify it.

Panama's government places considerable emphasis on the treaty as a means of boosting the existing very close trading relation between the two countries.
