Ranked third in Latin America and 36th globally, Panama is the best country in the isthmus for immigrants, according to U.S. News Best Countries for Immigrants.
In Latin America, only Brazil and Argentina outperform Panama in offering friendly conditions for new citizens and residents.
Costa Rica (ranked 49th) and Guatemala (79th) are the other Central American countries included in the ranking.
Globally, Sweden is in first place, while Kenya is last among 80 countries assessed.
For purposes of the evaluation, U.S. News assessed international perceptions of a country, as well as immigration policy and economic data (numbers in brackets indicate the global position of each nation).
