Panama is heading for 2.2 million tourists this year, hoteliers' association claims

Panama's tourism industry is confident that hotels will reach close to full capacity this summer, especially on the Pacific coast.

This year, 2.2 million tourists are expected to visit Panama, up from 2 million in 2011, according to the national hoteliers' association.

Income from tourists reached $1.91 billion last year, a 14 percent annual increase.
