Panama is poised to join the Pacific Alliance with Mexico, Chile and Colombia

The Peruvian government is negotiating an agreement with Chile, Colombia and Mexico to form part of the Pacific Alliance.

During the last meeting of the Alliance, held in Mérida, Mexico, the president of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli, said he wanted his country to form part of the group.

Meanwhile, the free trade agreement signed between Peru and Panama is expected to come into force next year.
