Panama leader vows to sustain economic growth

President Juan Carlos Varela pledged to maintain Panama’s growth rate as he took over from Ricardo Martinelli to lead Latin America’s fastest-expanding economy.
My goals will be to sustain economic growth with equality, face the debt, boost investment and fight for transparency,” he said.
But the country's mining and retail industries moderate growth has eased the country's 7 percent annual average growth under former leader Ricardo Martinelli.
