Panama leads economic progress
Costa Rica is receding
Ranked 6th among emerging economies worldwide, Panama leads Central America in the Inclusive Development Index of the World Economic Forum.
Panama, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala have improved their position over last year, while Honduras is stable.
Costa Rica fell six spots to 12th place.
The leader among emerging countries is Lithuania, while Mozambique is last.
The Inclusive Development Index measures how countries perform in 11 dimensions of economic progress, with a focus on growth and development, inclusion, intergenerational equity, and sustainable stewardship of natural and financial resource among 103 countries, 74 of which are emerging economies (numbers in brackets indicate the global position of each country).
