Panama leads regional tourism

In Central America, Panama is the country that best promotes tourism, according to the 2013 edition of the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index, published by the World Economic Forum.

Worldwide, Panama is in 37th place, followed by Costa Rica in position 47.

El Salvador came last in the region.

Globally, Switzerland leads the ranking, followed by Germany and Austria. Haiti ranks had the worst performance, among 140 nations (figures in brackets represent each country’s position in the global index).
