Panama leads tourism competitiveness

Panama is Central America’s most competitive tourism destination, according to the 2017 Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum.

With high marks for security and safety, Panama is in 35th position globally, followed by Costa Rica in 38th place.

El Salvador is last in Central America at number 105.

Globally, Spain is the most competititve country, while Yemen is last.

Business environment, safety and security, health and hygiene, human resources, and information and communications technologies, are used to measure competitiveness among 136 countries (numbers in brackets indicate each country’s global position).
