Panama power distributors to be sold to Fenosa and Ashmore

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Contracts in Panama between the nation’s three electricity distributors and the government are due to run out in 2013. As a result, the National Authority for Public Services (Asep) is preparing to contract a company that will provide consultancy for the process of the sale of majority stakes in the three.

In 2012, Asep will initiate the acquisition of the 51 percent holdings in Edemet, Edechi and Elektra Noreste (Ensa).

At the moment, 51 percent of the shares of Edemet and Edechi are held by Spain’s Unión Fenosa and Ashmore Energy International (AEI) of the United States.
