Panama rolls out rapid, transparent justice system

Friday, October 12, 2012

The legal maxim “justice delayed is justice denied” is becoming a thing of the past in Panama.

The accusatory penal system, which was introduced last year, has increased efficiency in justice by 70 percent, according to official figures.

Under the previous inquisitorial system – which is still in place in two of the country’s four judicial districts – a legal proceeding took an average of 172 days. Under the new system, the average has dropped to 58 days.
