Panama seeks to consolidate logistics hub status

Thursday, May 22, 2014

One of the Panamanian government and private sector's biggest challenges is to strengthen the country's position as the logistics hub of the Americas.

"Making sea, land and air routes more efficient, as well as strengthening the Panama Canal, banking sector and Free Trade Zones will help consolidate Panama as a logistics hub," said Severo Sousa, president of the country's Logistics Enterprise Council.

Among the challenges is the fact that many shipping firms have decided to look for alternative routes to the Panama Canal.
