Panama set to export fortified crops

Thursday, August 28, 2014

Panama is set to become an exporter of biofortified crops, said Axel Villalobos, director of Panama's agricultural research institution.

The Central American country has successfully grown several types of fortified products such as rice, beans, corn and sweet potato, and has become the region's leader in that type of agriculture.

Authorities are now in talks with international organizations so that Panama can export fortified products to countries like Haiti, Villalobos added.
