Panama to launch first wind-power tender to be held November 8. Potential for more hydro power is all but exhausted

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Panama’s government announced that its first wind-power tender is to be held on November 8, and it also aims to have its first solar plant next year.

The Energy minister, Juan Manuel Urriola, made the announcement during the Regional Energy Forum. He said that Panama has exhausted almost all of its hydro potential, so solar and wind will be priorities.

Urriola said that the first 150 megawatts of wind power will be located in central Panama.
