Panamanian legislators bow to protests by revoking controversial mining law

Panama’s legislative assembly revoked the new mining law that caused widespread protests by indigenous groups.

President Ricardo Martinelli proposed the revocation, which was passed unanimously by legislators.

The indigenous groups protested against plans to develop Cerro Colorado, one of the world’s leading copper reserves.
