Panamanian prices force lay-offs of up to one third of staff of shops in southern Costa Rica

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Happy shoppers can buy Costa Rican products in Panama at much lower prices than in Costa Rica, according to Costa Rican news reports.

The competition is strangling some Costa Rican stores in the zone immediately across the border from Panama. The prices are lower not only for home appliances, clothing and sports shies but in food produced in Costa Rica.

In some stores in Ciudad Neily, not far from the border, some Costa Rican stores have laid off nearly a third of their personnel.
