Peru and Guatemala to meet over trade dispute

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Representatives from Peru and Guatemala will meet in Geneva, Switzerland, this week to resolve a trade dispute concerning import taxes.

The two countries will be part of a meeting regarding Peru’s policy of charging extra import duties on certain agricultural products.

Last year, Guatemala filed a complaint with the WTO against Peru, arguing that these additional duties illegally protected Peruvian farmers from falling prices worldwide, namely of rice, sugar, corn, milk and other dairy products.
