Private insurers edge into Costa Rica market

The market share of private insurers in Costa Rica came to slightly more than 13 percent, excluding compulsory insurance.

This means the market share of private insurers as a whole reached 9.8 percent in October 2012, for an increase of 9.2 percentage points over the same time in 2010.

According to the Superintendent of Insurance, the market share of the National Insurance Institute, INS, reached 90 percent in October 2012, followed by ASSA, with 3.2 percent, Mapfre, with 2.2 percent, Alico, 1.5 percent and Pan American Life, 1.3 percent.
