Tuesday, March 13, 2012

The public-sector debt of Honduras at the end of 2011 was estimated at $5.7 billion, according to a recent report prepared by the Ministry of Finance and Central Bank of Honduras for the International Monetary Fund.

The debt equals approximately 37 percent of its gross domestic product, which the World Bank estimated at $15.4 billion in 2010.

The new debt acquired by Honduras last year is owed to a mix of organizations, including $442.9 million negotiated with multilateral lending institutions, $164.7 million with governments, and $182.4 million with private banks.
