Region fights mystery illness that hits farm workers

Central America, Mexico and the Dominican Republic will work together to fight a strange kidney disease that is affecting agricultural workers in the region.

Health experts, scientists and environmental specialists will hold a meeting in El Salvador in order to establish measures to fight and prevent the disease.

The disease has caused the death of more than 5,200 people in El Salvador from 2002 to 2011, and the number of people suffering from it is three times higher than the global average, said the World Health Organization.
