Region: hot hotel investment
New hotel developments in the region will invest close to $500 million in the next few years, based on recent announcements. The companies involved AM Resorts, Hard Rock, Trust Hospitality and Hilton Worldwide.
AM is planning to invest $125 million in a new luxury hotel on El Jobo beach, in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, with a projected opening date of 2013 or early 2014.
Guanacaste is the site of another major project, in this case a five-star Dreams Las Mareas Resort & Spa, on 1,500 hectares of beach property in La Cruz.
In Honduras, Trust Hospitality, under the Desides brand, is developing the luxury Los Micos Beach & Golf Resort on Tela Bay, expected to be completed by summer 2013.
The project includes has an 18-hole golf course designed by Gary Player, and a range of ecotourism activities in the area.
For its part, Hard Rock recently opened the Hotel Panama Megalopolis in Panama City, the first Hard Rock hotel in Latin America.
Another Panamanian project involves Hilton Worldwide, which in August of this year will open the Panamera, the first Panamanian hotel to use the Waldorf Astoria brand.
