Region needs investment in renewable energy

Central America is becoming one of the world's leading renewable energy generators, particularly hydroelectric power, said Salvador Rivas, regional coordinator of the Central American Energy and Environment Alliance.

The region has practically every type of renewable energy source, such as wind, water, geothermal and solar, said Rivas.

But, he adds, one of the region's main issues is the attraction of investment to develop the sector, as the countries are not major crude producers.
